In short

  • We collect what Daybook needs to work, and nothing for advertising.
  • We don't sell your data, show ads, or use tracking cookies.
  • With a PIN on, the text of your journal is stored encrypted.
  • The assistant only sees your information when you use it.
  • You can delete your tasks, your journal or your whole account at any time.

The summary is here to help. The full text below is what applies.

01What we collect

  • Your Asemita account. You sign in to Daybook with your Asemita account. From it we receive your account ID and mobile number, and your name, email address and profile picture if you've added them.
  • What you add to Daybook. Your lists, tasks, steps, due dates, priorities and repeats; your habits and their history; time you track with the timer; time off you mark; your journal pages, with any photos, voice notes and videos you add; your settings, such as your time zone, reminder times and journal cover; and your conversations with the assistant.
  • Your activity. A record of what you finished, missed and wrote each day. It powers your insights, streaks and calendar.
  • Your devices. For each device you sign in on: the browser and its version, the operating system, the IP address, when it was last used, and an approximate location (city, region and country) when our hosting network provides one based on the IP address. We don't use a separate location lookup service. You can see all of this in Settings, under Devices.
  • Notifications. If you turn on reminders, the push address your browser gives us so we can send them.
  • Server logs. Like most online services, our servers record each request: the IP address, browser, the address requested and the time. We use these to keep Daybook secure and to fix problems.

We don't collect payment details (Daybook is free), your contacts, your precise GPS location or advertising identifiers. Daybook and this website don't use analytics or advertising trackers.

02How we use it

  • To run Daybook: storing and syncing your tasks and journal across your devices, and working out your insights and calendar.
  • To keep your account safe: signing you in, showing you your signed-in devices, limiting repeated attempts, and stopping abuse.
  • To send what you ask for: the reminders you turn on, and confirmation codes by email when you delete things, if your account has an email address.
  • To answer you when you use the assistant, as described below.
  • To reply when you contact us, and to meet our legal obligations.

We don't use your tasks, journal or conversations for advertising, we don't sell them, and we don't use them to train AI models.

03Your journal and PIN

  • Without a PIN, your journal pages are stored on our servers like your tasks: sent over encrypted connections and protected by access controls.
  • With a PIN on, the text of every page is encrypted with AES-256, using a key made from your PIN. We store a one-way check of your PIN (a hash), never the PIN itself or the key. While your journal is unlocked, the app sends your PIN with each request, over an encrypted connection, so our server can open and save your pages. It isn't stored.
  • Photos, voice notes and videos you add are stored as files and are not encrypted with your PIN.
  • The assistant can't read locked pages.
  • If you forget your PIN, we can't recover locked pages. You can still delete your journal from Settings and start again.

04The assistant

The assistant is optional, and access to it is switched on account by account. When you send it a message, we send that message and the recent conversation to the AI provider we've set up, along with what it needs to answer, such as your lists, tasks, habits, insights or unlocked journal pages. Today that provider is one of OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or xAI.

We keep your conversation so you can pick it up later. You can clear it at any time.

05Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal data or share it for advertising. We share it only with:

  • Asemita services. Daybook uses Asemita's shared sign-in service for your account, and Asemita's file storage service for your journal photos, voice notes and videos.
  • Service providers who run Daybook for us: our hosting and database providers, our email delivery provider, and the AI provider behind the assistant. Each gets only what it needs to do its job.
  • Push services. Reminders are delivered through the push service run by your browser's maker, such as Google, Apple or Mozilla. Each reminder is encrypted on the way.
  • Google Fonts. The app loads its fonts from Google, which receives your IP address when they load. This website serves its own fonts and doesn't contact Google.
  • The authorities, when the law requires it, for example in response to a valid court order.
  • A new owner, if Asemita merges with or is acquired by another company, or sells its assets.

Some of these providers process data outside India.

Inside Asemita, Daybook's administrators can see a list of accounts, with each person's name, mobile number, email address, when they joined and last signed in, and whether the assistant is on. They use it to manage access and prevent abuse. Daybook's admin tools don't show your tasks or your journal.

06How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as your account exists.

  • Clearing all your tasks happens straight away.
  • Deleting your journal or your account waits 7 days, in case you change your mind. After that, it's removed from Daybook's database and file storage, including your photos, voice notes and videos.
  • Records of the devices you've signed in on are kept while your account exists, and deleted with it.
  • Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited time, then deleted.
  • Deleting your Daybook account doesn't delete your Asemita account, which other Asemita products may use. Write to info@asemita.com if you'd like that removed too.

07Your choices and rights

You can:

  • See and correct your information in the app at any time.
  • Download your journal as a PDF book.
  • Turn off reminders, stop using the assistant, clear its conversation, or sign out other devices.
  • Delete your tasks, your journal or your account from Settings.
  • Ask us for a summary of your data, a correction, or deletion, by writing to info@asemita.com.

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can also withdraw your consent, nominate someone to use these rights for you if you die or are unable to, and raise a grievance with us. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

08Cookies and browser storage

Daybook doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies. The app keeps your sign-in and a few preferences, like your theme, journal cover and timer, in your browser's storage so it opens the way you left it. Clearing your browser's data signs you out. This website doesn't store anything in your browser.

09Security

Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Your journal text is encrypted when you set a PIN, and too many wrong PIN attempts pause unlocking for a while. Requests are rate-limited, and you can see and sign out every device on your account. No system is perfectly secure, so if you find a problem, please tell us at info@asemita.com.

10Children

Daybook is meant for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child is using Daybook, write to info@asemita.com and we'll delete the account.

11Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also let you know in the app or by email.
